The History of Edge 'n Pointe

Edge ‘n Pointe was founded in September 2013 with the aim to bring quality performing arts training to the Tung Chung community of Hong Kong.  In 2019, it opened its doors in Sai Ying Pun to reach out to more in the Hong Kong Islands.

For the past years, Edge ’n Pointe has nurtured many individuals of varied ages and backgrounds. With classes catering students from toddlers to professionals, EnP is dedicated to provide guidance and experiences that shape students not only technically and artistically, but to develop self-esteem, confidence, and discipline as well.

Edge ‘n Pointe is also committed to serve those who are less fortunate and to give them a chance to explore the beautiful world of dance and performing arts. Since its inception, EnP continually provides full scholarships to less fortunate kids of Tung Chung. Partial scholarships are also given to children of performing artists who are in need of financial aid.

Furthermore, Edge ’n Pointe provides classes and performing avenues for pre-professional and professional dancers based throughout Hong Kong. This is a non-profit service of the centre as it aims to enrich passionate artists. Free classes, rehearsals, and opportunities to perform are given to a talented group of young artists who have the passion, talent, and love for the art of dance.

Apart from the annual recitals, EnP has performed at various shows around Hong Kong and overseas. Most notable was when EnP represented Hong Kong at the 2015 Aberdeen International Youth Festival in Scotland, where they got commendable reviews, and even brought home the Group of the Year Award, besting youth arts group from over 17 countries. EnP has also gained a name in local and international competitions held in Hong Kong, after garnering top awards in various competitions.

EnP has also marked a milestone for being the first in Asia to hold the American Ballet Theatre Affiliate Examinations. For the past years, all students passed the examinations with the biggest percentage of the group getting High Honors. EnP also holds ADAPT Jazz examinations, with students garnering medals for their Honors and Highly Commended Plus marks.

EnP looks forward to many more years to come as it continues to shine and strive to bridge cultural differences and promote unity through dance and performing arts.
